Introducing Kybella®, to improve the appearance of your double chin. Ask Dr. Hacker if you are a candidate.
KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.”
How It Works
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. You and your doctor will decide how many treatments you need. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA, retreatment is not expected.
About “Double Chin” or Submental Fullness
Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone. If you’re bothered by submental fullness, you’re not alone. According to a 2015 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS):
• 67% of people said they’re bothered by under-the-chin fullness, or double chin.
• People are just as bothered by under-the-chin fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around and under their eyes.

Stretch Marks or Striae
Removal of Stretch Marks
“Patients are frustrated when they have stretch marks and previous to this study our treatment arsenal was limited. We have tried certain lasers and tretinoin cream and these options helped only slightly and previously only providing marginal benefit,” says Steven M. Hacker, MD. “The good news is results of a recent study suggest that striae or stretch marks may be treated safely and effectively with a radiofrequency (RF) energy-generating system featuring a multi-polar (MP2) pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF). This is a new use for a device we have been using for 5 years in our office. ” says Hacker.
The study published this month in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology consisted of a two-center, single-arm pilot study involving 16 women between the ages of 30 and 72 (mean age, just over 46) with varying degrees of stretch marks. Each patient received six treatments using RF and PEMF. Two independent physicians at the end of the study compared pre- and post-treatment photographs and all 16 patients completed treatment. No side effects or undesirable safety events were recorded for any patient throughout the study. Fourteen patients reported visible improvement; one was not sure; and only one saw no improvement. All patients said treatment was comfortable.
“We use this same technology in our office every day and although the results are promising, certainly more studies and more data is necessary to conclusively report that radiofrequency adequately treats striae or stretch marks,” Dr. Hacker warns. “But, the good news is, this treatment is safe and comfortable and may be worth a try based on these early results in those patients bothered by striae or stretch marks.” Dr. Hacker says. “Further, I am willing to try it on my patients as long as they realize that this is an off label use of radiofrequency since we currently use if for facial skin tightening as well as body contouring. Realistic expectations need to be understood as every stretch mark or striae is different and the responses may vary but generally speaking with radiofrequency technology we see great results and really can help patients emotionally get past the stigma of stretch marks. I believe there is a need to continue to perform radiofrequency in a safe medical setting like in our Delray Beach dermatology office versus going to a spa, for instance,” says Dr. Steven Hacker.
A frequent question is how much does stretch mark removal cost. And the best way to answer that is “a small stretch mark can be treated for as little as $99 per session while larger stretch marks will be more expensive,” says Beth VanWyk, Office manager for Dr. Steven Hacker. “Our doctors will assess each stretch mark and give patients and understanding of the cost and duration of treatment prior to beginning therapy,” VanWyk says.

Tired of your Tattoo?
If you are experiencing tattoo regret, tattoo remorse, or you may just be tired of your tattoo, then Dr. Steven Hacker now has a painless tattoo removal option for you...
Starting as low as $99 per treatment**, including a consultation with Dr. Hacker
Dr. Hacker prefers The Alex TriVantage® Laser as his Total Tattoo & Pigmented Lesion Solution.
Dr. Hacker explains why the Q-switched Alex TriVantage is a Revolution in Tattoo & Pigmented Lesion Treatment
Why is this laser used for our patients?
Safety, less expensive per treatment, affordable, reliable and time tested.
TriVantage’s Alexandrite is renowned for it’s superior ability to treat greens, blues and black. New laser-pumped-laser technology makes it possible to deliver that same remarkable performance on tattoos of all colors.
Why Painless Tattoo Removal?
Dr. Steven Hacker injects local anesthetic into the treatment site using a needle the size of your eyelash. The injection is barely felt but more importantly it numbs the treatment area, so we can treat you painlessly with the laser.
Painless laser tattoo removal is our specialty.
How does Dr. Hacker’s Q switched Alex Trivantage laser work?
Dr. Hacker uses lasers to produce a very short burst of intense but gentle laser light. This light Dr. Hacker generates using his Alex Trivantage Q switched laser has the proper wavelength (“color”) to be absorbed by pigment. (Pigment is any “colored” substance.) Absorption causes “photothermolysis”, or heat damage, preferentially to the implanted tattoo or skin discolorations pigment without significantly damaging surrounding skin tissue. Dr. Steven Hacker’s laser treatment usually leaves other adjacent tissue relatively intact, so that healing occurs with normal pigmentation, or skin color in most patients.
How many sessions and how often will Dr. Hacker use his Q switched Alex Trivantage laser to remove tattoos?
Dr. Hacker plans each tattoo laser removal treatment usually every 4-8 weeks or more apart. Waiting 4-8 weeks gives your body the time needed to “carry away” the laser damaged tattoo or skin discolorations pigment, which you see as fading of the tattoo or skin discolorations. Because this fading process is somewhat individual and tattoo or skin discolorations ink is not standardized, and the tattoo or skin discoloration’s depth depends on how long ago and how deep it was applied, we cannot guarantee 100% complete removal of all tattoo or skin discolorations. In general for tattoos, amateur tattoo respond best (and more quickly) in 3 – 8 sessions. Professional tattoo may take 6 - 12 treatments, or more. The R20 method is a newer treatment approach to try and treat a tattoo in less treatment sessions. The doctor can discuss in more detail this option.
One Session Tattoo Removal when Dr. Hacker utilizes the R20 protocol
Dr. Hacker can use the R20 protocol with the Alex Trivantage Laser Tattoo removal... This is a new protocol with Q switched lasers to perform laser tattoo removal.
The R20 protocol
The “R20 protocol” or “R20 method” for tattoo removal involves the same high-tech laser devices that were previously used in dermatology clinics, but they are being utilized in a new way for more effective, accelerated tattoo removal. With the R20 protocol, a dermatology laser surgeon administers a series of treatments over the inked area with a laser device. These treatments or “passes” are spaced twenty minutes apart during a single office visit, rather than administered as single treatments in separate visits spaced over many months.
Advantages over Other Treatments
For conventional laser treatments, dermatologists used a laser device to make a single pass over the tattoo at each office visit. It took several months before a tattoo would begin to fade. With the new R20 method, more ink is broken down and lifted per visit. Instead of investing the 12 months (or more) that it used to take to complete an entire series of laser treatments, the R20 method means you may be done with treatment in a few months.

Are there alternatives to Dr. Hacker using a Q switched Alex Trivantage laser for tattoo removal?
In the past, tattoos have been removed by salabrasion, excision (cutting), or chemical peels. Also there are multiple other types of lasers on the market that also treat tattoos in addition to the Q switched ND YAG Alex Trivantage laser that Dr. Hacker uses in his office.
Dr. Hacker may determine upon consultation that you may not be a candidate for tattoo or skin discolorations laser therapy?
Certain tattoo colors and inks respond better than others. Also, Dr. Hacker may explain that his laser is less effective in moderately dark or black skin or for unknown reasons.
What are the risks when Dr. Hacker uses his laser for tattoo removal?
It should be expected for Dr. Hacker’s patients to have “pin point” bleeding points, scabs, swelling or blisters immediately after each treatment (and later, crusts or scabs). Swelling for a day or two or more after treatment is not uncommon. Our patients may also experience some temporary discoloration or reddening of the skin near the treatment site(s).
Depending on your underlying skin pigment, yo may experience lightening of the skin for up to a few months after treatment, normal pigmentation usually returns. Occasionally, removing the tattoo or skin discolorations “unmasks” mild scarring or lightened skin already present, but not readily visible before tattoo or skin discolorations removal, that was due to the original tattoo or skin discoloration process, itself. Also, it is important to know that Dr. Hacker will explain the risk of permanent scarring can happen with any laser procedure. Dr. Hacker wants all of his patients to understand that laser treatment is not 100% or perfect and thus some residual pigment may remain after a series of treatments.
Will Dr. Hacker’s treatment hurt?
Dr. Hacker will offer the optional use local anesthesia to make the procedure painless and because the laser causes mild discomfort. Patients describe the feeling of a laser pulse “the slight sting of a mosquito bite.” Most patients tolerate laser treatment with no need for anesthesia.
If you need some, the doctor will discuss the right kind to use (e.g. an injection of “local”, or applying a cream one hour before treatment).
How long will Dr. Hacker’s laser treatment last?
The time your laser treatment will take depends on the size and number of tattoo or skin discolorations and how well you tolerate the treatment. Most sessions last from 5-30 minutes.
What safety measures are needed during laser treatment?
Since the laser produces a very bright beam of light, we make sure everyone must wear protective eyewear while the laser is in use. If there is hair near the treatment area, we recommend you shave this area on the morning of the procedure.
Other lasers for Tattoo removal
Some of the most common types of lasers used for tattoo removal are:
Is a picosecond aesthetic laser. This technology delivers ultra-short pulse bursts of energy to the skin in trillionths of a second. Picosecond pulse width is 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology, enabling unmatched photomechanical impact for better clearance with fewer treatments and less fluence. This is the newest laser for tattoo removal but also the most expensive per treatment with the same results as the Alex Trivantage but in fewer treatments but overall much increased cost. So, the same result can be achieved for half the price with Trivantage.
• Q-Switched Ruby Laser:
This was the first laser used for tattoo removal. The light wavelength of 694nm makes this useful for green tattoos (the most difficult to remove). Although special care must be taken when treating someone with dark skin, this laser is still very useful for removal.
• Q-Switched Nd:
YAG Laser. Introduced in 1991, the neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser became the most heavily-used laser in the tattoo removal industry. This laser can operate alone at a wavelength of 1064nm (effective for removal of dark blue or black ink) or with a frequency-doubling crystal to shorten the wavelength to 532nm (effective for removal of red or orange ink).
• Q-switched Alexandrite Laser:
This laser, introduced in 1992, operates at a wavelength of 755nm, which resides between those of the ruby and neodymium: YAG lasers. It is excellent for the removal of green and blue-black tattoos.
All of these lasers are highly useful for tattoo removal, but as you can see, certain lasers more effectively remove certain colors.

Exilis® is an FDA approved technological marvel that delivers dual function radiofrequency energy that reduces volume and tightens skin. It used to be that the only way to reduce fat volume from the body (aside from diet and exercise) was liposuction, which requires surgery and downtime from regular daily activities. Not anymore! Thanks to Exilis® patented Energy Flow Control and thermoelectric cooling, can move fatty acids from the cells while simultaneously stimulating new collagen.
Fat cells are stored in the body in lobules that are clustered like a bunch of grapes. These clusters are wrapped in a fibrous tissue layer like a hairnet that holds them together. This fibrous tissue layer makes it virtually impossible to reach the fatty clusters without a liposuction cannula - until now. The Exilis® uses radiofrequency energy to volumetrically heat the deeper tissues and to ramp up the metabolic activity of the fat cells, causing them to shrink. The patient satisfaction rate is high. Measurable circumferential reduction is observed after 4 treatment sessions spaced at one week intervals. All of this occurs in a safe, painless, and quick 30 minute office procedure with no downtime or limitations on your activities! Kathie Lee Gifford had 4 treatments on the Today Show. She lost 2 inches from her waist!
Anti-aging for the Modern Age
Sculptra® Aesthetic is used to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds which are treated with the appropriate injection technique.
Sculptra Aesthetic is suitable for:
• Deep folds between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds) also called smile lines
• The lines framing your mouth (marionette lines)
• Chin wrinkles
Sculptra Aesthetic gradually replaces lost collagen. Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful looking and smooth. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases, and you may begin to see wrinkles. Sculptra Aesthetic works to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds,* as it replaces lost collagen, which can help provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance.
Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by a Sculptra trained physician. On average, three injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.
*Safety and effectiveness of Sculptra Aesthetic have not been evaluated in areas other than nasolabial wrinkles and folds in clinical trials.
